# Billing and credits

Copy pageCopy page

Prices, credits and usage on the Developer Portal and in the fileAI app, plus top-ups, upgrades and support.

Copy pageCopy page

fileAI bills for what you process, with no limits on users or workspaces. How you pay depends on where you work: prepaid credits on the Developer Portal, or a plan in the fileAI app. App plans can be billed monthly or annually.

##

[

](#developer-portal)

Developer Portal

The [Developer Portal](https://developer.file.ai) runs on prepaid credits in US dollars. Each product is charged on its own, so a file that uses both is charged for both.

Product

Price

Charged when

fileScout

**$0.015 per page**

Processing completes. See [what counts as a page](#what-is-metered).

fileForensics

**$0.05 per run**

A run started at upload completes, whatever the number of checks.

**Free trial:** new accounts start with **$7 of credit**, enough for about 460 fileScout pages or 140 fileForensics runs. For example, a 6-page PDF uploaded with both products costs 6 × $0.015 + $0.05 = **$0.14**.

###

[

](#credits-and-top-ups)

Credits and top-ups

Open **Billing** in the portal sidebar to see your credits remaining, your plan, your payment method and your payment history. From there you can top up once, or turn on **auto top-up** so your balance doesn’t run out. Your balance also shows at the bottom of the sidebar; click **Manage credit** to top up.

###

[

](#usage)

Usage

Open **Usage** for the last 30 days, across all projects or one. It shows requests, pages processed, success rate, total cost and credits used per day, then every run with its file, project, status and cost. Click **Export CSV** to download it.

##

fileAI app

New self-serve workspaces start on a trial so you can try fileAI before you commit. For current prices and plan details, see the [pricing page](https://file.ai/pricing).

###

[

](#see-your-plan-and-usage)

See your plan and usage

1

Open Billing

Click your workspace icon at the top left, then **Settings** > **Billing**.

2

Review your account

The page shows your current plan and credits, storage used, file types in the workspace, import and export counts, and a usage breakdown (upload date and time, processing time, cost).

For billing questions, click **Contact Support** on the Billing page.

](#check-your-subscription-from-the-api)

Check your subscription from the API

`GET /v1/subscription` returns the same plan, credit and usage figures for the workspace your API key belongs to. Set `FILEAI_BASE_URL` to `https://api.orion.file.ai/prod/v1`, or your [regional host](/authentication#regions).

```
curl "$FILEAI_BASE_URL/subscription" -H "x-api-key: $FILEAI_API_KEY"
](#what-is-metered)
What is metered
Usage is counted per product:
Product
Unit
How it is counted
fileScout
Page
Counted once processing completes. PDF, Word, PowerPoint and TIFF: each page. Images and CSV: 1. Excel: each worksheet.
fileForensics
Completed run
One unit per **completed run** started at upload, whatever the number of checks. Runs that end in error, fail or are cancelled are not charged.
For prices, see [Developer Portal](#developer-portal) above or the [pricing page](https://file.ai/pricing).
###
[
](#example-a-month-of-claim-packs)
Example: a month of claim packs
You process 200 insurance claims a month. Each claim pack has a 4-page claim form PDF, a 3-page repair estimate PDF, a 2-page police report PDF and 6 photos, and you turn on fileForensics at upload for every file.
Per claim pack
Per month (200 packs)
fileScout pages
4 + 3 + 2 + 6 photos × 1 = **15**
**3,000 pages**
fileForensics runs
9 files × 1 completed run = **9**
**1,800 runs**
On the Developer Portal that is 3,000 × $0.015 = \*\*$45\*\* for fileScout and 1,800 × $0.05 = \*\*$90\*\* for fileForensics, or **$135 a month**. On a fileAI app plan, multiply each total by your plan’s rate. A forensics run that ends in error is not counted, so the real total can be slightly lower.
##
[
](#when-you-run-out-of-credits-in-the-app)
When you run out of credits in the app
Keep processing by either:
*   making a **one-time top-up**, or
*   turning on **automatic top-ups** so your balance stays active.
Manage both from **Settings** > **Billing**.
##
